Pat Kanda

Pat Kanda is District 51, born and raised.
Kanda not only spent his youth in school at District 51, he also served on the school board from 1993-1997. He then went on to study accounting at Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University), and now works as an accountant.

He’s involved around our community as a member of the Clifton Lions Club and participant at the Grand Valley Health Fair. Also, he tutors math and distributes food at the Mesa County TFAP.

Despite not having children of his own, Kanda has raised four step-children, three of which have graduated from District 51.

If elected, Kanda hopes to review the current core curriculum (reading, writing, math, and government study in later years) with a focus on teaching to a deeper level. He believes that exit exams at each grade level would indicate the depth of knowledge of each student.

“I believe education is the only process we have for creating future generations to improve and prolong our quality of live,” says Kanda. “Currently I think we are doing a disservice to students by not teaching to a deeper level of knowledge and understanding.”
