Los Angeles (AP) Sean “Diddy” combs says he's “shocked” by an LA Times story that says he and his associates were behind the 1994 robbery and shooting of Tupac Shakur at a New York recording studio.

Shakur survived the attack, but it ignited the east coast-west coast feud that would ultimately lead to his death.

Combs says the La Times story is a “lie” that is “beyond ridiculous and completely false.”

The paper says it based its story on FBI records and interviews with people at the shooting. It says Combs and others lured Shakur to the bloody attack to punish him for disrespecting them.

The story also says talent manager James Rosemond and promoter
James Sabatino arranged the assault.

Rosemond called the story a -- quote -- “libelous piece of garbage.”
