MACK, Colo. (KKCO) - Before hitting the stage at Major Mortgage Country Jam 2011, country singer Josh Kelley filled us in about his debut country album, performing with his also famous brother, and who he'd share a bathroom with.
KKCO: How are you doing?
Josh Kelley: I'm good, man. We're going to have a good time tonight. We just rolled in. I've got a lot of my family here today and we're planning on having a real good time. I'm pulling some old stuff out and some new stuff. We're gonna have fun with some crazy covers. And we're just gonna kinda goof off.
KKCO: Speaking of the new stuff, the new album "Georgia Clay" just dropped in stores this spring. Tell us why you love this record and why all your fans should go buy it.
Josh Kelley: I'm originally from Augusta, Georgia. I'd been basically trying to get a record deal in country music forever, but I had to take a lot of avenues to finally get to do what I love. I don't journal much, but my music ends up becoming my journal, so my albums are very autobiographical. I feel like that's what makes them very relatable. So I guess that's why you should buy the album. And also because it's awesome!
KKCO: Your younger brother Charles is also playing tonight with his band, Lady Antebellum. How often do you guys get to play at the same venue and what's that like for you?
Josh Kelley: We've been playing together since we were 13, 14, I think. It's great. This is something we've been doing since we were little kids and it's an honor and a blessing to be able to do what you love for a living. So we always try to get together and hang out like we did when we were little. Maybe go play some golf or just do whatever, just have a good time.
KKCO: You think you guys could beat Rory McIlroy?
Josh Kelley: Who me? (laughs) No, that guy is unbelievable!
KKCO: You probably don't get this question a lot -- but when you were growing up, you shared a bathroom with your brother Charles. You currently share a bathroom with your famous wife Katherine Heigl. And in college, we read that you actually shared a bathroom with New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. Is there anyone you haven't shared a bathroom with that you would be like "I would totally share a bathroom with this person?"
Josh Kelley: I don't know if I could say that it's a dream of mine to share a bathroom with anybody other than my girl, I guess. But I don't know. How about my future kid? I'd love to share the bathroom with the next kid. Hopefully it's a boy, that way I have a girl and a boy."
Kelley's country debut "Georgia Clay" is currently available in stores and on iTunes.
