Colorado's 3rd congressional district candidates duked it out Saturday in front on hundreds at Colorado Mesa University.
The three candidates say they all want what's best for Western Colorado, but have different ideas for how to solve our complex problems.
Third Congressional District candidates Republican Scott Tipton, Democrat Sal Pace and unaffiliated candidate Tisha Casida all agree what needs to happen to turn our country around.
"Jobs, the economy, and the debt," said Tipton.
"Jobs, and putting people back to work," said Pace.
"The economy, and what we can do to create jobs," added Casida.
Incumbent Scott Tipton believes he's fighting to bring jobs to the Western Slope.
"We put forward legislation to be able to achieve that, to be able to responsibly develop our natural resources right here, to be able to put people back to work," said Tipton.
But Democrat Sal Pace says he's not doing it in a bipartisan way: something he pledges to do if elected.
"Our current congressman had nearly a 100 percent voting record with his party. It's going to be impossible to get anything done in Washington if you're unwilling to work in a bipartisan fashion," said Pace.
Standing feet away from each other, the three went back and forth, telling guest why they should get their votes.
"I don't believe that the federal government can create jobs. I think we have to work in our state and counties, to find out what the red tape and bureaucracy is," said Casida.
Concerned taxpayer Jeremy Rubingh hoped candidates would focus on tax breaks for oil companies.
"We've paid out $9.3 billion this last year to an industry that's making $137 billion in profits. I'd personally like to know as a taxpayer, why we're giving out corporate welfare to one of the most profitable industries on the planet," said Rubingh.
And once all the rhetoric and last rebuttals are finished, the candidates encourage you to do your homework and make your vote count.
"It's very important that we get out to vote. The future of this country will literally be determined in this coming election," said Tipton.
