GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) That's because more than 60 people shaved their heads at Naggy McGee's Saturday afternoon. It was all in an effort to raise money to fight cancer. The event was part of Saint Baldrick's foundation week, where the organization raises money to help find a cure for childhood cancer.. This was the first head shaving event in the Grand Valley, something organizers hope to continue until they've won their fight.
"I want it to grow it year after year and make more money, and I hope one day actually we can stop doing this. I hope that they find a cure for cancer and we don't have to do this anymore," says Robyn Carmine, who shaved her head for St. Baldrick's.
In addition to raising money for children's cancer research, Saint Baldrick's also honors kids who are fighting the disease. Community members, including Mayor Bill Pitts joined the effort.
As of Saturday afternoon, the event had raised more than $14,000.
