An update to the situation where a man barricaded himself inside a home on Orchard Avenue early Sunday evening:

Authorities say around 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, officers responded to a domestic violence call in the 1200 block of BookCliff Avenue. The suspect had already fled the scene when they arrived, but officials had information that he might be in a house on the 1600 block of Orchard Avenue.

When Grand Junction Police arrived, they saw the man in a home and tried to get him out. The residents who lived in the home were not there at the time. GJPD spoke to them shortly after and they said there were handguns in the house. That made the situation more dangerous for law officials.

Authorities set up a perimeter around the house and called the S.W.A.T. team to assist them with the situation. The man eventually came out of the house and was arrested. Authorities say he will be facing charges of burglary and domestic violence at least.

Neighbors say the GJPD did a great job keeping them informed of the situation. They received reverse-9-1-1 calls when the incident first happened and again when it ended.
