GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, as of 7:00am, one lane is open each direction at I-70 Debeque Canyon east of Grand Junction.

Drivers are urged to avoid travel on I-70 between DeBeque and Highway 65 if possible.

Sporadic closers are expected throughout the day. A detour is set up using the De Beque cut-off road and Highway 65. This detour could be closed if the fire crosses I-70.

The fire, burning 10 miles NE of Grand Junction, has burned 12,047 acres and is 5% contained.

KKCO 11 News has calls into Union Pacific and is waiting to see the status of railroad traffic through this area as well.

People are hungry for news. How difficult would it be to call up the fire command, get the gps coordinates for the edges of the fire, and fill in a google map? Not only would you have a good story but you would be doing the public a service.

There is a wildfire. Until the fire no longer poses a hazard to the Interstate traffic.
