Grand Junction, CO (KKCO) "Pathways Home Colorado is the state plan to address homelessness. The plan is the first ever coordinated effort released by the Colorado state government to address homelessness.
The plan includes implementing cost efficiencies, encourages sharing of information, and promotes collaborative partnerships to reduce duplication.
The governor says one of his top priorities is getting the homeless off the streets. "The state is not going to solve everything and we can't put the burden on the local community; but we know that inflation over the last twenty years, housing costs have gone through the ceiling, and it's harder and harder for people to stay in housing," says Hickenlooper.
The plan also includes building political will and regional priorities, innovative approaches to local needs and issues, and understanding the mobility of specific homeless and at-risk populations.
Officials hope these strategies will help address problems statewide, instead of locally.
Hickenlooper is on a statewide bill signing tour. He'll be at the Old Mesa County Courthouse Monday morning to sign three more bills.
