Delta moves into top 10, bumped up in wildcard rankings

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The Class 3A football rankings had a new face in week nine's poll, the Delta Panthers.

Delta upset then-third ranked Palisade 26-21 on Friday. The Panthers improved to 6-2 on the season with the win and that helped them shoot up the state rankings to ninth.

Conversely, the Bulldogs fell from third to tenth in Class 3A.

In the wildcard rankings, Delta moved up to 13th in the state with 71.5 points. Three spots ahead of the Panthers are the Palisade Bulldogs with 75 points.

In Class 5A, Grand Junction dropped four spots to 19th with 86.25 points. The top 32 teams will make the 5A tournament, which leaves the Fruita Monument Wildcats on the outside looking in right now as the 'cats are ranked 39th.

The Montrose Indians are currently ranked tenth in 4A with 86 points. Montrose will receive an automatic bid into the playoffs if they remain atop the SWL.
