GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The Fruita Monument Wildcats have joined the 5A volleyball ranks at number ten and on Tuesday the real fun begins.
They'll get their first taste of conference play with a big game against their ongoing rival in every sport - the Grand Junction Tigers - at home at 6:00 PM.
For the Wildcats, the bulls eye is on their back. They enter 2013 as the defending SWL champs after finishing the 2012 season with a solid 9-1 performance in league, but this year they could be an even bigger threat.
The varsity squad is made up of just nine players - all of them seniors - so if there's ever a year to make it all the way to the top now is that time.
"It's a little bit different if you feel like you're the team everyone's gunning for, which we do this year," said head coach Bob Richardson. "Last year we were the one trying to catch up with Durango, and it's a little more pressure on you when you feel like everybody's going to give you their best game."
"You want to make sure you win the games and just keep your head up," said senior Joelle LeFevre. "This year we just hope to improve and be the champs again."
