GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- It's been a streaky season for the boys of Fruita Monument lacrosse. Fortunately for the Wildcats, they're riding the up-swing of things this weekend.

Fruita defeated Durango on Saturday 11-3 to win their 3rd straight. The Wildcats will meet Grand Junction on Tuesday.

I understand that the Valley is a small community and as such presents a limited pool of talent and coaching expertise to draw upon.I also understand that lax is a relatively new introduction here. But c'mon..... I'm sure those kids are really working hard out there but the level of expertise in lax is sorely lacking here.I understand that it's relative--that other Western Slope schools field similar teams--but when does it end? When do these kids start receiving top notch coaching? Admittedly,I became perhaps a snob watching the Gait brothers play at Syracuse University as I was growing up.But the fact of the matter is that no Western Slope HS Lax team is good enough to earn an invite to an East Coast JV Tourney, let alone trying to compete with a varsity program. I am a proud GJ resident now--but calling a spade a spade in this case is only done b/c I want to see improvement.
