GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Makenzi DeCrow's two-run double in the top of the ninth broke a 3-3 tie and gave Fruita Monument a 6-4 win over Grand Junction, and first place in the Southwestern League.

After trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th, the Tigers tied the game at 3-3 with a sacrifice fly from Arianna Diaz, which scored Cierra Cosslett. It wasn't until the ninth that either team scored again, when DeCrow blasted a bases loaded, opposite field double off the right field fence. FMHS added one more run to take a 6-3 lead.

Junction brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but Mallory Paulson was able to close the door and hang on for the win. Cosslett took the tough-luck loss tossing a complete game for GJHS.

Mariaha O'Dell (FMHS) and Madison Marsh (GJHS) both homered early in the game.

Fruita Monument has won four straight since dropping it's league opener to Grand Junction two weeks ago. The Wildcats (4-1) hold a one-game lead over the Tigers (3-2) in the SWL.

The Palisade Bulldogs let one slip away at home. They came out strong in the first inning. Angela Gordon threw a runner out at the plate in the top of the first, and then scored the games first game in the bottom half of the frame.

But April Easter settled in for the Delta Panthers to get the 8-4 win. Next up, the Bulldogs will host Durango on Sept. 29 and the Panthers will head to Basalt the same day.
