GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Wrestlers are putting in those final practices Tuesday before hitting the road Wednesday for the 2014 state wrestling tournament in Denver.
The Grand Junction Tigers walked away from regionals with the strongest representation having six qualifiers, and according to Coach Allison it's one of the best teams he's seen in recent years.
Cody Lacy, Isaac Rider, Louis Guillen, and returning state champion Jacob Trujillo all enter with state experience, while juniors Kohlby Wells and Tyler Zook enter ready for the challenge.
Fruita Monument is also set to go for state competition. Junior Jacob Seely, a 2013 state placer, leads the way for the Wildcats with a perfect 42-0 record after claiming the regional crow in the 195's, but Seely will be joined by plenty more talent.
Junior Ty Taylor qualified for state in 2013 and will be heading back after finishing second at regionals. Senior Ian Konrad and Kaden Fife will also be headed to Denver, both returning state qualifiers.
The state wrestling tournament begins Thursday with preliminaries and ends Saturday with the Parade of Champions starting at 6:30 PM.
