GJ's Diamante: Tigers will play tough vs. Columbine

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The past two seasons, Grand Junction has held the higher seed in an opening round match-up for the state playoffs.

This season is different. The Tigers lost two games in league play, which contributed to them earning the 23rd seed in the 5A tournament this fall.

That leaves the Tigers playing the underdog role against tenth seeded Columbine. Not to mention, Columbine is the defending state champion.

Grand Junction senior James Diamante isn't read into the hype, however. According to him, it's an insult that the Rebels are considered high favorites over the Tigers.

"[The Rebels] kind of game is they are going to line up and beat us the way they want," Diamante said, "[but] we want to just line up and play them head-to-head and beat the ... [pause] .. beat them."

The Tigers and Rebels play at 4:00pm at JeffCo Stadium on Friday.
