Utu's Buzzer Beater Propells Wildcats

GRAND JUNCTION - Kami Utu made a last second layup to propell the Fruita Monument girls basketball team past the Grand Junction Tigers 38-36 on Friday night at Grand Junction High School.

The Wildcats outscored the Tigers 16-4 down the stretch thanks to two three pointers from Sarah Hasley and Cami O'Brien, as well as an offensive rebound and putback by Hasley to help set up Utu's buzzer beater.

The win improved the Wildcats record to 2-2 in the SWL, 6-9 overall. Mary McGee led Fruita with 11 points. Utu and O'Brien each scored eight.

Emily Stark had a game high 14 points in the Tigers loss. Brittany Berguin scored eight and Kershel Claussen scored five points as the Tigers fall to 2-3 in the SWL, 6-10 overall.
