FRUITA, Colo. - Julie Faber shot 10-15 from the free throw line on her way to a game high 20 points on Friday night as the Fruita Monument Wildcats swept the season series from the Grand Junction Tigers 52-49.
The first time the two teams met during the regular season Fruita's Kami Utu won the game with a buzzer beating layup. Friday night's game came down to one final shot also.
With 8.5 seconds left on the clock and the Tigers inbounding the ball underneath the Wildcats basket, Junction was able to quickly pass the ball up the floor where it ended in the hands of Kershell Claussen. The Tigers were down 52-49 and Claussen had a wide open look at the basket, but her shot was off the front of the rim.
Brittany Berguin helped pace the Tigers in the first half thanks to four three pointers. She finished the game with 20 points. Claussen only scored eight points while Emily Stark added 14 points.
Sarah Hensley was another big factor in the Wildcats win. Hensley added 17 points and a trio of three pointers in the win.
