GRAND JUNCTION - The Grand Junction High School girls' basketball team led by 13 after the first quarter in route to a 60-39 win over the Pine Creek Eagles in Thursday night's opening round game of the 5A State Playoffs.
The Tigers jumped to a 21-8 lead after one and never trailed for the remainder of the game.
Senior forward Kershel Claussen and center Emily Stark combined for 33 points in the win. Claussen scored 18 and Stark put in 15 points. The two post players also grabbed nine rebounds each and combined for ten blocked shots, seven for Stark and three for Claussen.
Lisa Hughes scored nine points in the win and Freshman Fawn Brady added eight points.
The seventh seeded Tigers next game will be on the road against number two seed Horizon on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
