GRAND JUNCTION - A 16 run first inning powered the Grand Junction Tigers to a 27-3 win over Golden High School on the opening day of the Bill Fanning Classic on Thursday.
The Tigers made 21 plate appearances in the first inning and had 10 hits to go with the 16 runs in the bottom of the first.
Tigers firstbaseman Geoff Baldwin walked in his first three plate appearances and then recorded his first hit of the season with a towering solo homerun that cleared the scoreboard at Suplizio Field in right-center field.
Conner Dixon and Andrew Willet also hit homers in the Tigers win.
Grand Junction's next game is against Coronado at 12:30 p.m. at Suplizio Field on Friday.
