GRAND JUNCTION, Colo - The Fruita Monument baseball team blew a lead and lost to Grand Junction the first time the two teams met this season. In the grudge match, Fruita didn't make the same mistake on Tuesday night.
The Wildcats were tied 1-1 with the Tigers after one inning at Suplizio Field. Fruita took the lead in the second inning and this time there was no late-game comeback by Grand Junction.
J.J. Russo drove in David Witsken in the top of the second inning to put the Wildcats back on top 2-1. After that Alex Mende hit a 2-RBI double and Fruita led 4-1 after two innings.
In the third inning the Wildcats added four more runs to lead 8-1.
Fruita pitcher Rex Clemons (who is committed to play for Mesa State) gave up only one run on a sac fly in the bottom of the first. Clemons pitched the complete game and made the final out of the game by fielding a groundball and making the easy toss to first for the 9-1 victory.
