GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Despite the nasty weather, eighty-four golfers hit the links at Bookcliff Country Club in search of a 5A state championship on Tuesday, including three local athletes.
Donny Kinnaman (freshman - GJHS) had the best showing of the three, finishing +11 and tied for 23rd. His teammate Garret Fante (senior - GJHS) was +20 and tied for 55th. Joey Saad (senior - FMHS) was +15 and tied for 39th.
Gus Lundquist (Regis Jesuit) was crowned champion after shooting a final round 71, putting him at +2 for the tournament. Brandon Gayeski (Mountain Range) was second at +3.
In 4A play, Montrose's Kolten Kyne tied for 5th overall at -2. Palisade's Kyler Smith tied for 17th at +7. Wyndham Clark (Valor Christian) ran away with the title shooting a 64 in both rounds, finishing at -16.
