GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Jerreon Dennis and Sean Rubalcaba had two rushing touchdowns each as No. 2 Grand Junction beat No. 18 Chaparral 35-21 at Sports Authority Stadium in the second round of the 5A playoffs on Friday.
The Wolverines (7-4) jumped out to a 7-0 lead early in the second quarter, but Rubalcaba evened the score with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Chandon Rose. The Tigers (11-0) took their first lead of the game later in the second quarter when Rubalcaba broke off a 57-yard option touchdown run. Dennis gave GJHS a 21-7 halftime lead with a 1-yard score in the final minute of the second quarter.
Chaparral closed the gap to 21-13 when quarterback Max Kuhns ran one in from a yard out. But the Tigers built a 35-13 lead following a pair of Rubalcaba and Dennis 1-yard touchdown runs.
Grand Junction will host No. 10 Lakewood on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Stocker Stadium. Lakewood beat No. 7 Horizon 10-0.
