GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. On Tuesday night Grand Junction held off Fruita Monument's late comeback with an 8-6 win, avoiding a series sweep.
Fruita pitcher Devon Canup struggled early in the game, and Grand Junction took advantage. By the third inning Tristan Lafferty pulled his team ahead with a bases-clearing shot down the left field line that brought the Tigers to a 6-1 lead.
They tacked on two more runs before Fruita shut them down and tried to rally back into it. But it was too much for the Wildcats as they fell 8-6.
