GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Thursday afternoon the Central boys basketball team hosts the annual Warrior Challenge - featuring 8 different teams from across the state including a few of our local teams.
Grand Junction - the reigning Southwestern League champion - will make an appearance in hopes of working through the kinks early in the season.
The Tigers return a majority of their 2012-13 squad to the court. Last year the boys took an 18-6 finish after earning a first round playoff bye and then playing into the Sweet 16.
Though their journey ended sooner than they had hoped, the Tigers look at this year as a chance to improve and learn from their mistakes and getting in three games against some top-ranked teams can only help their case.
"Central does such a good job of bringing good teams over to that tournament," said Grand Junction head coach Dutch Johnson. "[It] give us a chance to play three good teams early in the season, kind of see where we're at, gives us a chance to play against a high level of competition and then hop right on the road and head over to Denver the next two weekends, so in three weeks we'll play 9 games and see a lot of really good teams."
