GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The rivalry between Grand Junction and Fruita Monument took center stage on the softball diamond. Last season the teams split with the tiebreaker going to the Wildcats for the SWL title. This year, the same could be on the horizon.
The two opened up conference play under the lights of Bergman Field. Grand Junction already had four games under their belt while Fruita Monument was opening their season.
Fruita started off the night putting a run on the board. Grand Junction wouldn't be able to respond until the fourth inning rolled around. Marisa Arrieta found the deep right corner to bring in Molly Findlay and tie the game.
The Wildcats would be quick to take the lead right back, scoring two in the bottom of the fourth for a 3-1 lead.
The Tigers would be able to get within one run, and then put a runner at third in the top of the seventh with no outs. But Fruita handled the pressure, getting the Tigers to pop out, strikeout and then ground out for the 3-2 victory.
