HS HOOPS: GJHS girls, FMHS boys victorious

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The Fruita Monument boys and Grand Junction girls remained the kings and queens of the SWL with wins at GJHS on Friday night.

The FMHS boys (10-2, 1-0) demolished the Tigers (7-5, 0-1) 64-34. Alex Padgett had a repeat performance from last year's game at GJHS leading the game with 27 points.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 17-5 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter. The Tigers came back and closed the gap to 27-19 at the half, but FMHS leaned on Padgett and Drew Bridges in the second half to run away with a 30-point win.

The GJHS girls (11-3, 1-0) knocked off FMHS (5-7, 0-1) 56-36 thanks to the play of senior Jamie Derrieux and Freshman Sydni Brandon. Derrieux led the game with 18 points and Brandon had 12 of her own.
