FRUITA, Colo. - Monday marked the first official day of practice for high school football players across the state of Colorado and the Fruita Monument Wildcats were all accounted for on day one with head coach Billy Moore.

For the past few years on the Western Slope the Wildcats have been the lone 5A football program which has made it more difficult to earn points for the 5A playoffs. But now the Wildcats have some familiar company at the top level in the state with the Grand Junction Tigers and Central Warriors making the move up for the 2008 season as well.

The Wildcats were a young team last season that only won three games and lost in the first round of the playoffs. This season the team is still a young group, but the major difference is that this year's team brings with it experience and confidence.

11 Sports' Zach Kerker was at the opening day of practice as the 11 Sports Team goes Campin' with the Fruita Monument Wildcats.
