BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado tight end who pleaded guilty in an off-campus brawl has been sentenced to two years' probation and 50 hours of community service.

Boulder county district judge Maria Berkenkotter sentenced Riar Geer on Monday. The 21-year-old Geer avoided a jail term of up to two years.

He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor third-degree assault stemming
from a March 14 fight. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to drop charges of felony second-degree assault and misdemeanor harassment.

The university office of judicial affairs ordered Geer to serve 50 hours of community service, in addition to his court-ordered sentence. Geer was suspended from the team for the spring semester but will be allowed to play this fall.
