Kolcraft Enterprises of Chicago is voluntarily recalling about 425,000 infant play yards following the death of a child.
This recall involves twelve playpen models all made by Kolcraft, and sold since 2001.
The main hazard is the changing table's restraint strap, hanging inside the playpen.
Officials received a report of a ten-month old boy who died by strangulation. The boy strangled on the changing table’s restraint strap that was hanging down into Kolcraft’s “Sesame Beginnings” Travel Play Yard.
The Director of Public Affairs for the Consumer Product Safety Commission said "There has been a death associated with one of these portable play yards. If you have one of these play yards you should remove the loop safety strap from the changing table immediately and get a new, safer strap from Kolcraft.”
The CPSC says there are also reports of a play yards with a raised cradle that poses a suffocation hazard. The CPSC says there have been 45 reports of children rolling to the side of the rocking cradle attachment.
The recalled play yards were sold in a variety of colors and patterns and were manufactured in China.
