UPDATE: Attempted kidnapping report becomes false reporting case

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Grand Junction Police say last night's attempted kidnapping report was a false one and the incident never happened.

Grand Junction Police Department Spokeswoman Kate Porras says the incident which reportedly happened at Canyon View Vineyard Church Tuesday night didn't, actually.

Porras says the case has been sent to the District Attorney's office for review.

Just after 8 p.m. a call came in from Canyon View Vineyard Church on 24 1/2 Road saying an unknown man tried to kidnap a young girl there, then fled on foot after he was unsuccessful.

Porras says the girl told officers a man came up to her as she was walking into the church and tried to pull her away. She claims she then bit the man's arm and ran into the church after he let go of her. Once she was inside the church, she says she saw him run out of the parking lot headed southbound.

Further investigation revealed the incident never happened.

Maybe the child needs to see what happens to habitual liars... Show her the inside of a jail cell for a few hours.

To me it's more of a reminder to teach our children that there are consequences for telling lies, especially ones that draw law enforcement away from real work and places where they are more needed. Most child abductions are by a person known to the victim-this kid's masked stranger story sounded straight out of the movies or TV.

Thank God she admitted this....We live right next to the church and the thought of a masked predator running around caused me to keep my kids a little closer today...It also serves as a reminder to keep educating our children about stranger danger.....Hopefully this little girl will be grounded for a long long time......
