Illegal Dumping of Pets at Roice Hurst Humane Society

By  |

The Roice Hurst Humane Society is only able to house thirty-two dogs and one hundred twenty-seven cats. They are over the limit by twenty cats.

Cats are being found in crates or boxes that have been thrown over the gates, or just lying outside of them. In one instance about a month ago, kittens were thrown out of a moving vehicle and found.

With the weather getting cold, employees are checking the shelter after hours and through the night to make sure no animals have been left. Employees know no animal can take the cold, freezing nights.

The Roice Hurst Humane Society now has to start turning people and their animals away because so many are just illegally leaving them there. They are sending people to the Mesa County Animal Control.

The funds are also drying up. People donate all types of supplies, but now money is needed more than anything since it is getting cold and there are going to be more bills, like for heating.

It is illegal to leave an animal at the shelter without paying the drop off fee. This fee helps the shelter to pay their bills and keep the animals and safe, healthy and happy as can be.
