GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (KKCO) - A 9-month-old baby boy was killed in a rollover crash on Interstate 70 early Sunday morning.
According to Colorado State Patrol, 19–year–old Joanne Echeverria of New Castle was going west on I–70 just west of Glenwood Springs when she lost control of her car. She drove into the center median then rolled the car several times.
Echeverria's 9–month old son was ejected during the crash and came to rest in the left eastbound lane.
According to the accident report, the boy was in a child safety seat but wasn't properly restrained because the parents didn't want to wake him.
The accident shut down westbound I–70 for about two hours and is still under investigation.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
State Patrol says 90 percent of child safety seats are improperly used or installed.
