Family and friends of Jason Kemp hold vigil
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A hat, a baby picture and other precious memories decorated a bench at the Mesa County Justice Center Sunday night. Friends and family slowly made their way to the impromptu memorial to pay their respects to Jason Alan Kemp.
Killed by a Colorado State Patrol Trooper in July, the details of the night have not yet been released. Mourners at the Sunday’s vigil expressed doubts about the ongoing investigation, voicing their concerns and asking for investigators to "find the truth." Jason’s younger sister, Leisel Kemp says, "He didn't deserve what happened to him. We want to keep our streets safe and for this to never, ever happen to anybody again."
As people lit candles Leisel reflected on a protective, yet playful, older brother, saying, "He taught my younger brother and I how to do so much. He just loved us so much. We didn't always agree on everything but we definitely loved each other."
"It's been terrible and very hard on all of his friends and family," she says.
