MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO) - The Montrose County District Attorney says he’ll review charges filed against a Montrose teenager accused of causing a crash that killed his own mother.
Colorado State Patrol wrote the 16–year-old a ticket for careless driving causing death and driving without a license.
District Attorney Meryl Serra says he got the paperwork into his office Thursday and will decide how to proceed.
Officials say the 16–year-old boy apparently fell asleep while driving on U.S. 550 near Colona. The car went off the road, rolled his truck and hit a tree. His mom, 36-year-old Maria Elena Martinez-Torrez was killed instantly.
