With the battle against Methamphetamine ongoing in Mesa County, a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice for more than $440,000 is aiming to aid in the fight.

Deputy Chief, Troy Smith, with the Grand Junction Police Department introduced the grant to city council members on Wednesday night. The funds will help pay for overtime for law enforcement officers in all agencies, and allow the County Meth Task Force to bring in an analyst to gauge how current tactics are working.

With Meth cases clogging up the courts, the District Attorney's office will be able to hire a Meth specific prosecutor. The funds will be used through August 2009.
