GRAND JUNCTION, Co (KKCO)- It's labor day and for many that means no work and no school, but that's not the case for everyone.
Labor day was first observed in 1882 and became a federal holiday in 1894 but the way it's celebrated has changed over the years.
Members of the Redlands Lions Club got up early this morning to line the streets with American flags.
It was their way of recognizing the contributions of the nation's workers.
Many of those workers got an extended weekend to enjoy today's beautiful weather.
Some spent the day at local parks and pools, while others chose to take a stroll downtown.
Although only a handful of shops were open, Browns Cycles was one of them. This is the first year the store has ever been open on Labor day. Owner Chris Brown says he's trying to making up for a tough year.
