Young victim in fatal Hwy 50 crash identified, teen in critical condition

DELTA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) - Colorado State Patrol has released the identity of the 20-year-old Olathe woman who died in a crash on Highway 50 Saturday.

Troopers say 49-year-old Rama Martin of Montrose was driving a Suzuki Sidekick east on Highway 50 just eight miles outside Delta when she went off the road for some reason and rolled the SUV four times.

Twenty-year-old Allissa Blake from Olathe was riding shot-gun and died on scene. She was wearing her seat belt.

Martin was also wearing her seat belt and suffered only minor injuries, as did a one-year-old who was properly restrained in a car seat.

Troopers say 15-year-old Kurston Howard of Montrose was the only one not wearing her seat belt. She was ejected and flown to a Grand Junction hospital. She remains in the hospital and is listed in critical condition according to hospital officials.

Officials don’t believe speed or alcohol played a factor in the crash and haven’t filed charges yet.

I would like to say that if you are gonna report you need to make sure you have your facts straight. Kurston is not being takin off life support, she is holding her own, there are alot of positive signs so please can we not put her in her grave before her time. second off it is reported that the baby was 1 year old and she is two. The young woman who was killed is my niece, and I would appreciate it if you verify facts before you further report.

Dear Vivian, Thank you for giving us additional information. Until we hear from family (since we try not to be invasive when families are stuggling with injuries and loss) we are only able to report that information which is given to us by the authorities at the scene. As you know, crash scenes are chaotic and information initially given to us and reported is later updated as facts become clearer. We are updating this story now. Thank you for the information.

Dear Vivian, We've been told Kurston is struggling and will be taken off life support after everyone in your family has had time to say goodbye. I cannot tell you how sorry we are for Kurston, you and your family. If this is true we would like to let the community know about any memorial fund that may have been/will be set up in her name or any memorial service arrangements you need to share. We would also like to offer you the opportunity to share with the community what a special girl Kurston is if you ever feel liek sharing her story. Again, you have our deepest sympathies. 11 News
