A man says he shot a mountain lion that was attacking a puppy, and now Colorado Department of Wildlife Officials are considering whether to recommend charges against him.
The shooting happened at about 1:30 a.m. Friday in a home near Gross Reservoir just west of Boulder. DOW officials say there are laws that protect people and their livestock to keep them safe, but the shooting of this mountain lion falls in a gray area because it attacked a dog, and not a person or livestock.
The puppy was one of three that was chained outside and is expected to survive. DOW officials have confiscated the mountain lion. At least two other mountain lion attacks on pets have been reported in
that area in the past month.
