Cleveland School Shooting Evokes District 51 Reaction

Despite being more than 1,500 miles from the city of Cleveland,
the shockwaves emitted by Wednesday's fatal school shooting in that city were felt locally.

District 51 administrators say no matter where it happens, anytime a shooting happens is a reminder of the district's preventative methods at area schools.

Since Columbine in 1999, the district has initiated several programs and it starts with the relationship with police and the school resource program, which is up for renewal.

"Hopefully the renew our school resource officers program, but more importantly the teachers are attuned to those kinds of students who may feel alienated from the general student group," District 51 Board Member Dan Robinson said.

Robinson adds that through tragedy administrators have been able to create profiles of someone who would be likely to bring violence onto school grounds, which will hopefully deter further violence in the future.
