27 year old Trooper Zach Templeton died Friday evening from injuries sustained in an accident Thursday afternoon on Interstate 76 in Adams County.
Trooper Templeton and 38 year old Trooper Scott Hinshaw were helping an elderly man load two plastic farm chemical tanks back onto a trailer on I-76 when a 17-year-old driver crashed into them.
CSP says the teen had not realized traffic was slowing in time and suddenly hit the brakes before steering to the left to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of him.
Hinshaw remains at Denver Health Medical Center in serious condition.
No one else involved in the crash was injured.
Funeral arrangements for Trooper Templeton have not yet been announced.
Templeton who was divorced leaves behind a 3-year-old daughter.
Charges against the teen driver who caused the accident are pending the outcome of an investigation.
