Though fans across the state are thrilled for the Rockies first World Series appearance, no one is as excited as founding owner Charlie Monfort.

Monfort was in Grand Junction Tuesday afternoon at Mesa State College.

He was in a good mood when he addressed the crowd, even joking that he left his cell phone on the table which he needed to get online and buy World Series tickets.

Monfort says he is appreciative of all the Rockies fans here on the Western Slope, and that it's always great to see people make the drive to Denver to support the team.

He tells 11 News he's excited for the World Series to start, and that he's not bothered that baseball's hottest team is still being called an underdog.

"I think winning twenty-one out of twenty-two, we've had a long layoff and people say Boston had a better record during the season so they should be favored," said Monfort. "But we've been the best team in the National League since June, so it's not just a hot streak -- we play pretty good ball. Boston would be the natural favorite just because of their history."

Mayor Jim Doody was at Mesa State as well, where he declared Tuesday as Charlie Monfort Day in the city of Grand Junction.
