LOS ANGELES (AP) _ A Hollywood Teamsters Local has told its members they can honor picket lines if TV and film writers strike.
Union officials say the teamsters have a legal obligation to honor their contracts with producers. But they say they can't stop individual members from deciding to honor picket lines.
The local represents truck drivers, casting directors and location managers at studios. Negotiators for the 12,000-member Writers Guild of America resumed their tense negotiations with producers on Wednesday. A federal mediator is on hand to try to break a stalemate before the current contract expires Thursday night.
A key issue involves payments for programming distributed on DVD, cell phones and through other new media.
