Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery

Sunday morning daylight saving time ends, and you might need to think about changing more than just your clocks.

Since hardly anyone forgets to change their clocks, the International Association of Fire Chiefs and Energizer started a campaign twenty years ago to get people to change their smoke detector batteries at the same time.

As part of the program, Energizer provides hundreds of thousands of batteries to more than five thousand fire departments nationwide.

Because of this program many Americans have gotten into the habit of changing their batteries at the same time they change their clocks.

96-percent of Americans have smoke alarms, with more than a quarter that don't work because of dead batteries.
