A study finds college students who drink alcohol mixed with energy drinks are twice as likely to be hurt, require medical attention, and ride with a drunk driver than students who drink straight alcohol.
The study was done by Wake Forest University.
The main ingredient in energy drinks is caffeine which is a stimulant. Alcohol is a depressant. So when you mix the two it's like getting into a car and stepping on the gas and the brake at the same time.
Researchers say that although the symptoms of drunkenness were reduced among students who mixed the two, they were still drunk and less able to tell that they were drunk.
