Arrest Made After Crash Kills Unborn Child

The Mesa County sheriff's department transferred 24-year-old Logan Lage from St. Mary's Hospital to the Mesa County jail Friday. Lage is being charged with child abuse resulting in death stemming from a fatal accident that happened last Monday on Highway 65.

According to authorities, Lage eluded a Colorado State Patrol Trooper after a failed traffic stop. During a high speed pursuit Lage attempted to pass a semi truck on the two lane road and slammed into an SUV driven by 26-year-old Shea Lehnen. Lehnen was 8 and a half months pregnant and the child she was carrying subsequently died.

The Mesa County district attorney's office is awaiting the coroner's report on the child's death and if the baby was born alive Lage could face additional charges including vehicular homicide.
