Email Scammers Pretend to be from Department of Energy

Scammers pretending to be from the Department of Energy want your money.

Now the DOE wants to warn you about the email you'll want to delete right away. The email tempts you with a promise to save you money on your heating bills.

The sender's email address reads "refund- @energy.gov"with a subject line of "Urgent Notification". The email says you are entitled to a refund of $480.58 from an analysis of your bills.

Then you're asked to click on the message to receive the refund; doing so infects your computer according to the DOE. The DOE says they never collect money or give refunds by emailing the public.

If you find this email in your account, delete it to save your computer from the virus.
