Watch the Earth Set from the Moon

By  |

We've all seen the moon setting from the earth, but what about the other way around?

Here's an image of the earth setting from the moon's perspective. Japan's lunar probe recently sent these images. According to Japan's Space Agency, these are the first high–definition pictures of the earth, from the moon.

They were taken as the probe passed over the moon's south pole. You can see the Australian and Asian continents, but you might not recognize them; they're upside–down from what we're used to seeing.
