Thai Police want Cooking Oil Donations to run their Police Cars

Police in Thailand are thinking green.

They want to keep soaring gas prices from cutting into their crime–fighting budget.

The plan... Police in Bangkok are asking the public to donate cooking oil – to be converted into biodiesel. The fuel would be used in their patrol cars and would cut down on paying at the pump.

Anyone from a large food processing plant, to a fried banana vendor, is encouraged to donate.

The goal: by the end of the year, Thailand hopes to have 80 of its 1500 police stations running their cars on biodiesel. The program is even good for the environment, as biodiesel is an environmentally–friendly alternative to traditional fossil fuels.
