Grand Junction Mayor Jim Doody officially announced his candidacy for County Commissioner Tuesday.
Doody, a republican, will be running against current County Commissioner and republican Craig Meis.
Mayor Doody says the people deserve to have a choice even if that choice comes from the same party.
Doody says his focus will be on the people of Grand Junction and their future. Doody told 11 News, "We need to look forty years out and start working backwards, figure out what's going to be best for my children and your children."
County Commissioner Craig Meis said in an earlier interview there were several people he would step down for but Mayor Doody was not one of them.
