Fruita City Council Shoots Down Controversial Apartment Complex

By  |

Tuesday night, the Fruita City Council shot down a controversial plan for a new apartment complex.

Dozens of residents from across Fruita came to voice their opinions on the proposed Monument Village complex, which would have created 132 new units near the intersection of East Aspen and 18 Road.

Many residents argued the complex would bring more traffic, bring new safety concerns, and block views of the monument.

Others, however, said this complex is just what Fruita needs.

"We like the small town feel of Fruita," said Fruita resident Sarah Rayside. "It doesn't seem like the right place for a huge apartment complex to go up."

"I know that Fruita is going to grow and Fruita needs a diverse amount of housing," said Fruita resident Tom Dodd. "This appears to be a quality project."

Council members say the 132 apartment proposal was just too dense for that piece of land.
