An unusual donation from a San Jose hair salon is helping clean–up the latest California oil spill.
The Atelier Salon in San Jose is donating discarded hair–clippings to help make mats, designed to soak up oil like a sponge!
The salon owner says they fill up small garbage cans with hair… pack it down... Box it up... And ship them out.
This is now part of an on–going nationwide project.
Thousands of salons are sending their trimmings to San Francisco–based "matter of trust"...
They're an environmental group that gets the hair mats woven — and sent where "soaking" is needed most.
Matter of trust tells us that there are around 320–thousand salons in the united states sending an average of one–pound of hair a day —–to landfills.
